Job Summary

This position is responsible for the preparation, set-up, troubleshooting and coordination of services and repair for all equipment in the Operating Room.

Job Responsibilities:

Directs the care, preparation and maintenance of equipment and supplies in the OR, as well as the set-up, opening, and breakdown of surgical cases in the department.

Demonstrates correct and safe technique in the use of surgical equipment according to Manufacturer's guidelines, in accordance with Virtua Health's policies and procedures.

Maintains full knowledge of surgical equipment and associated accessories used in the Operating Room, as well as documentation and records related to equipment and accessories.

Troubleshoots and corrects operation and configuration problems associated with surgical video equipment, endoscopic equipment, surgical lighting systems, in collaboration with manufacturers.

Participates in, as well as directs peers, in the assembling of equipment and supplies in preparation for surgical procedures.

Performs user maintenance on the majority of equipment used in the OR, including carts, wheels, hinges, hardware, filters; checks condition of hoses, cords, cuffs, fiber optic cables, and bulbs, and repairs/replaces as necessary.

Ensures that the proper supplies and accessories relevant to each surgical procedure are available and maintained at all times.

Required Education:

Required: High school graduate or equivalent.

Preferred: AA or BS in health care or related field.

Required Experience:

At least 3 years' experience as a Surgical Equipment Tech in a high volume, highly technical OR setting.

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Training/Certification/Licensure:

Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support
