Position Summary:
The Makerspace Prototype Machinist is responsible for the development, implementation, fabrication, and delivery of machining jobs in the NJIT Makerspace. They will interface with clients, NJIT faculty, staff, and students working to develop machining specifications and strategies, suggest improvements, provide estimates, order materials, perform machining work, and ensure projects are completed on time and delivered to clients.

Essential Functions:
- Participate in meetings with clients to clarify requirements and determine scope.
- Provide machining and setup time estimates to facilitate quoting of jobs.
- Develop/select appropriate fixturing, machining strategies, and tooling to meet project requirements.
- Perform CAD and CAM necessary for the programming of CNC machines (mill, lathe, Wire EDM).
- Develop and execute preventative maintenance items for machinery.
- Comprehend and execute setup sheets generated by other staff members.
- Maintain communication about job progress and status to supervisors.
- Contribute to shop cleanliness and organization.
- Demonstrate problem-solving and advising skills required to work with and clients who may not be familiar with machining.

Prerequisite Qualifications:
- Ability to operate standard manual and CNC shop equipment such as mills, lathes, grinders, presses, saws, inspection equipment, and others.
- Ability to program and operate Haas CNC vertical mills, laths, and multi-axis machines.
- Proficiency with modern CAD and CAM packages.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
- At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficiency in Fusion360, MasterCAM, Esprit Wire.
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Engineering or related field.
