Position Summary:
The position of Program Instructor (Hourly) of Science for Middle and/or High School means an overall commitment to the policies and procedures of the New Jersey GEAR UP/College Bound program. Acceptance of this position carries certain specific responsibilities in addition to those outlined in the general job description. The program operates year-round during the Academic Year (fall and spring) and Summer Sessions (July-Mid August). Fall and Spring Sessions are Monday thru Thursday (Occasional Fridays) from 8:00 am until 2:00pm and/or 3:00pm until 5:00pm. Saturday Sessions are 20 sessions during the Academic Year from 8:00 am to 3:00 p.m. Note: Academic Year weekday school hours are adjusted as needed per school. Summer Session is currently up to six (6) weeks, Monday thru Thursday, from 8:30am until 3:00 pm with occasional Saturday events.

Essential Functions:
A Program Instructor will Provides relevant grade level academic classes to prepare students for success in high school and college. Helps students to integrate reading and writing skills. Helps facilitate students' communicative, study and time management skills as well as assist in the development of test taking strategies. Helps students to reduce their fear of any subject and help facilitate their problem solving and critical thinking abilities. Helps students to develop math, science, reading and language skills in preparation for the state mandated tests, i.e., PARCC, PSAT, SAT/ACT (actual tests may vary). Attends all staff development and training session. Submits typed lesson plans on time. Helps to develop and implement the NJ GEAR UP/College Bound curriculum based on the New Jersey Common Core Standards for the program. Creates a learning environment that will facilitate the desire to learn and help students to gain self-motivation for self-improvement. Maintains accurate academic records and files Assists in the administration, design, and evaluation of standardized diagnostic and placement tests. Performs other duties as assigned

Prerequisite Qualifications:
Certification for core subject areas of Science. Experience with minority and disadvantaged student is helpful.

Preferred Qualifications:
At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be accepted, where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, and equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
