Job Overview:

The Lead Endoscopy Technician, under the general supervision of a Registered Nurse, assists physicians or other providers with procedures performed in the endoscopy setting. This position functions as the technical expert, assisting in the performance of procedures as well as performing administrative and coordination as a lead worker.

This position is the expert resource in the use and maintenance of the highly complex endoscopic equipment and instrumentation used in endoscopy specialties. The Lead Endoscopy Technician is responsible for the orientation, training, and mentoring of those individuals at the endoscopy technician level. The position is also responsible for developing content and/or teaching continuing education of the endoscopy technician. This position functions with a high degree of autonomy and will assume additional responsibilities as delegated by the Charge Nurse.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Formal training or experience in medical specialty (i.e. LPN, Surgical Tech)
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as an Endoscopy Technician
  • Completion of SGNA Associates Program preferred

Preferred: N/A

Certifications and Licenses Required (if applicable):

  • CER certification required
  • BLS required

Scheduling Requirements (non-exempt positions):

  • 8:00 5:00
  • Days
  • Per Diem

Essential Functions:

  • Performs and serves as a technical expert for endoscopy technicians, assisting with endoscopic procedures
  • Recognizes emergent situations during procedures and demonstrates the ability to set priorities to assist the team
  • Assists with the collection of specimens
  • Facilitates proper patient positioning prior to procedures
  • Understands theory and safety when using cautery modalities including monopolar, bipolar, and argon plasma coagulation and their various probes
  • Assists with therapeutic interventions such as balloon dilations, polypectomy, and clip placement
  • Seeks out learning experiences to maintain competency in endoscopy and shares knowledge through continuing education
  • Facilitates teamwork by willingly assisting other team members in such activities as room cleaning, turnovers, procedures setups, patient transport, and scope reprocessing
  • Coordinates review of special order supply inventory
  • Serves as troubleshooting resource in the department for use of equipment. Identifies and reports defective equipment and supplies to Biomed, Materials Management, or Charge Nurse
  • Independently completes competencies on staff
  • Other duties as assigned
