About the Job
The Licensed Acupuncturist (LAc) is responsible for the evaluation, plan of care, therapeutic intervention, reevaluation and education of patients who are referred for acupuncture.

The shift will be 1 day (Monday or Wednesday) for 8 hours.

Job Summary

The Licensed Acupuncturist (LAc) is responsible for the evaluation, plan of care, therapeutic intervention, reevaluation and education of patients who are referred for acupuncture and their families.

Job Responsibilities

Responsible for the provision of acupuncture (and other integrative therapeutic interventions appropriate to his/her scope of practice and training) to patients on a continuum of age, health and wellness. Evaluates patients to determine appropriateness of services; establishes long and short term goals with patient and caregiver involvement; and develops an individualized treatment plan incorporating patient and caregiver needs. Consults with the patient's specialty and/or primary care providers, as necessary. Facilitates treatment sessions, utilizing an evidence-based approach, to meet each patient's specific needs and to achieve care plan goals. Observes progress and/or changes in patient's condition and modifies plan accordingly. Explains the treatment to patients and families, and responds to their questions and concerns. Evaluates treatment outcomes and recommends new or altered treatments as necessary to further promote, restore, or maintain health. Assesses patient's progress through questioning and examination as well as reviewing treatment plans, if necessary. Maintains detailed and complete records of session by documentation in the patient's electronic medical record. Documents patient's evaluation results, objective status, progress towards goals, treatment plan, and recommendations in compliance with documentation requirements of the hospital and accrediting associations. Educates patients and caregivers on treatment goals and therapy plan; instructs patients and caregivers on activities to follow while in hospital or at home; documents instruction; and evaluates ongoing compliance and understanding. Maintains the administrative functions of individual caseload, including scheduling patients for treatment, entering daily charges, and submitting timely documentation to appropriate parties. Actively engages in building utilization of the Integrative Health Program's services. Conducts formal and informal educational programs for hospital staff, students and community. Develops and maintains a portfolio of educational materials for clinicians and patients, using print and non-print media. Receives continuing education, reads professional journals, and keeps up-to-date on industry practices and regulations. Participates in departmental in-service training programs to enhance professional development. Collaborates with physicians, third-party payors, relevant healthcare providers and community stakeholders. Adheres to local, state and federal laws, regulations and statutes. Adheres to program guidelines. Maintains and follows standard quality, safety, environmental and infection control policies and procedures. Sets-up and breaks down rooms with necessary equipment and supplies. Manages the inventory of supplies and equipment. Adheres to the department productivity standards. Participates in research activities as required.

Requirements:

Licensed Acupuncturist (AK) or Practitioner of Oriental Medicine in New Jersey; minimum of 5 years practicing; 1 year in pediatrics.

Certification by National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM).

Preferred:

Master's Degree; 1 year of experience working within a healthcare delivery system. Additional training in Oncology.

  • Ability to represent the Center/Program within and beyond institution.
  • Ability to handle confidential materials and matters.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to function efficiently and professionally with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to quickly learn new procedures.
