About the Lab:

We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and dedicatedLab Managerto join the lab ofDr. Cliff Brangwynneat Princeton University. The Brangwynne lab works on understanding the biophysics of phase transitions in living cells and how different states of matter affect gene expression. Through combining concepts and tools from soft matter physics and molecular cell biology, they have revealed how shifts in material states drive the condensation of various liquid-like assemblies throughout the cell. The Lab Manager will hold an integral role within the lab - not only taking on the administrative duties involved in running the lab but also supporting and participating in the science. What you'll do:
  • Manage day-to-day activities within the research laboratory, including such activities as insuring operation of essential equipment, making sure adequate supplies are available for routine experimental procedures, etc.
  • Act as liaison between lab and HHMI and host institution administrative offices on issues such as fixed asset inventories, purchasing, use of host accounts, etc.
  • Act as liaison between lab and host safety and regulatory offices to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations.
  • Develop laboratory guidelines; maintain procedures manuals; and /or evaluate new materials and equipment.
  • Train incoming personnel in proper lab conduct. May train others in technical areas and complex processes.
  • May undertake a research project in support of other lab personnel. May evaluate new techniques and technology.
  • May plan for and provide supervision to the work of Research Technicians or other laboratory personnel.

In addition to the duties specifically identified by this job description, the position will include other duties if and as assigned by the direct supervisor or others with supervisory authority over this position.

What you bring:

Education

  • B.A. or B.S. in Biology or related field

Experience

  • 3-5 years of prior lab experience

Skills and Abilities

  • Candidate must be self-motivated, energetic and able to work in a diverse laboratory environment
  • Knowledge of standard safety regulations and appropriate laboratory practices applying to research in biology and biochemistry; demonstrated ability to engage others effectively in learning and applying appropriate practices
  • Excellent organizational, communication, computer and record-keeping skills
  • Knowledge of computer and MS office software, as well as Mac software
  • Operational knowledge of advanced lab equipment.
  • Ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a diverse population.
  • Ability to supervise others.
  • Ability to initiate and compose communications for various purposes in an appropriate style.
  • In-depth understanding of organizational structure both within and outside the work unit, including the role of each position in the group and in other groups.
  • Ability to develop instructional material for routine training purposes.
  • Ability to review goals, analyze processes necessary to achieve those goals, and develop techniques and systems required to meet those goals. Often explores new areas and seeks opportunities to apply new knowledge to work.

Physical Requirements:

Remaining in a normal seated or standing position for extended periods of time; reaching and grasping by extending hand(s) or arm(s); dexterity to manipulate objects with fingers, for example using a keyboard; communication skills using the spoken word; ability to see and hear within normal parameters; ability to move about workspace. The position requires mobility, including the ability to move materials weighing up to several pounds (such as a laptop computer or tablet). Work may involve possible exposure to malodorous vapors, low dose radiation, contamination by toxic chemicals and acids and presence of carcinogenic substances.

Compensation Range

$75,350.00 (minimum) - $94,200.00 (midpoint) - $122,430.00 (maximum)

Pay Type:

Annual

HHMI's salary structure is developed based on relevant job market data. HHMI considers a candidate's education, previous experiences, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity when making job offers. Typically, a new hire for this position in this location is compensated between the minimum and the midpoint of the salary range.
