At Port Newark Container Terminal, the Vice President of Information Technology leads the local technology team and establishes the strategic direction of the PNCT Information Technology & Cyber Security platforms. The role leads all IT related activities in regard to integration of software, new technology, and business processes for PNCT and identifies key business requirements and plans appropriate IT resources to execute IT projects in support PNCT Operations.

This role will also lead cybersecurity initiatives in conjunction with PNCT Owners (Ports America & Terminal Investment Limited- TiL) in addressing development, implementation, and monitoring of information management and cyber security policy, training, standards, and related processes to support and protect the enterprise.

As part of the PNCT executive team, the VP of Information Technology will interface regularly with the Chief Operating Officer to ensure alignment and update progress on initiatives, and as required with PNCT's Chief Executive Officer & Chief Financial Officer.

Essential Duties:

  • Plan for and manage local IT staff, ensuring optimal coverage and support to terminal operations.
  • Manage software development timelines with vendors, holding them accountable to delivery date commitments, demonstrated QA checks, and adherence of agreed terms.
  • Collaborate with remote and Ports America IT support to build tiered support system.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal business stakeholders, PNCT Shareholders, and application vendors.
  • Align with business needs and facilitate IT/operational processes for optimal productivity and process improvements.
  • Ensure cost effective services and performance metrics met by all terminal operating system supporting vendor groups.
  • Recommend and plan information technology operating solutions that meet operational objectives and are congruent with terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Develop and direct projects within approved fiscal budget limits.
  • Develop annual IT Budget & 5 Year CAPEX Plan to support PNCT Business Initiatives
  • Direct, organize, and lead projects to implement new and existing applications and systems within approved fiscal budget limits.
  • Set priorities, evaluate engagement, initiate projects, and issue directives regarding innovation.
  • Identifies industry trends and opportunities.
  • Develop strategy for project prioritization, business alignment, and execution of terminal and customer solution projects and initiatives.
  • Present and lead discussion on technologies and innovation materials (benchmarking, technology reviews)
  • Collaborate with Business and Market Intelligence to map out competition matrices for technology.
  • Provides guidance and counsel to staff in examination and definition of objectives for existing or proposed customer systems, and in the design of system improvements.
  • Direct review of present customer systems to determine appropriate changes to effect improvement, reduce costs, and enhance efficiency where possible.
  • Build relationships with external shipping community (including but not limited to: PANYNJ, major carrier customers, government agencies, IT vendors, Peers at other Marine Terminal Operators).
  • Onsite at Port Newark Container Terminal
  • Travel - 20%

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 10+ years of progressive technology management experience within terminal operating environment.
  • 8+ years of senior-level operations experience.
  • Experience with computerized operating and financial systems (desired) and P&L accountability

Financial Responsibility

  • Responsible for Capital Expense budget of: $5,000,000+ annually.
  • Oversees annual operating expense budget of $2,500,000

Supervisory Responsibility

  • Supervises an IT team consisting of Service Delivery, Application Support, EDI, and Infrastructure/Hardware professionals.

Physical Working Attributes:

  • Maneuver on a ship, around a yard and in and out of terminal facilities.
  • Exposed to environments such as Ports/Shipping Terminals that may be hazardous to persons unable to see and hear fast moving heavy equipment.
