Job Description

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Deployment Technician is a desktop PC professional responsible for all phases of the desktop computer lifecycle. This includes initial configuration and customization, installation, cabling, and deployment, software troubleshooting, remote management, security monitoring, and decommissioning. This position requires highly developed customer service and communications skills and the ability to effectively understand and meet customersrsquo; hardware and systems needs when configuring and deploying computers, printers, storage, and other desktop-related devices.

The Deployment Technician works on computer roll-outs to individuals and small groups as well as to large departments. The work involves small scale purchases as well as large-volume leased equipment deployments. Included in the types of desktop and notebook installations are office moves, new staff set-ups, renovations, and the provisioning of new campus spaces.

The Deployment Technician provides services in receiving materials, inventorying systems and parts; configuring desktop PCs, laptops, printers, and storage devices; imaging and completing the build, traveling to customer sites, and finalizing the installation to the customerrsquo;s satisfaction.

The DT works with and takes direction from the Deployment Project Analyst who provides project management and scheduling services.

EDUCATIONAL/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

High school diploma is required. Undergraduate degree is desired but not required. Dell, Apple, and HP printer hardware troubleshooting and repair skills and background is desirable. Effective knowledge of Microsoft Office software required.

Certificate, degree or equivalent IT experience such as MCP, CNA, CCNA, MCSE preferred.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience in end-user device technologies, application integration and associated workstation services, operating systems, and utilities related to desktop services.
  • Expertise in network operating system (NOS) and office automation administration functions, operations and security requirements.
  • Experience in installation and maintenance of operating system software and related products necessary to coordinate and administer desktop services.
  • Expertise in desktop deployment and annual refresh strategies and process.
  • Expertise in desktop monitoring, utilization, capacity planning, and management systems, and the application of this knowledge to support the budget process and customer service.
  • Expertise in Windows 2000 and Windows XP migration planning, design and implementation.
  • Expertise in network print, file and directory services.
  • Experience in back office and desktop troubleshooting and problem diagnosis.
  • Experience in virus protection technology and process to ensure data integrity.
  • Knowledge in installation and maintenance of Dell and Apple Macintosh hardware and related products.
  • Experienced with vendors of services and products relevant to hardware installation and configuration.

Effective documentation skills are essential.
