Posting Summary
Rutgers The State University is seeking a Laboratory Assistant in the Brain Health Institute (BHI) within Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

This is a full-time Laboratory Assistant for 40 hours per week. The successful applicant will interface with the principal investigator and lab personnel to provide general research support and to help with building experimental setups, running experiments, ordering necessary lab supplies, managing mouse colonies, genotyping, and general lab management. This position may require some weekend work.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Manage several mouse colonies, breeding, weaning, tail and toe clipping, genotyping, and euthanasia.
  • Collect inner ear and brain tissue and post-experiment processing of the tissue.
  • Section the tissue and perform immunohistochemistry on the sections.
  • Perform PCR for genotyping, and occasionally perform qRTPCR, or Western blots or other molecular biology techniques on the experimental samples.
  • Maintains accurate records of experimentation and research and tissue.
  • Assists with computer data entry and analysis.
  • Assist with ordering necessary lab supplies.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Associates Degree in a relevant science plus one (1-3) years related experience in a laboratory environment.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Basic computer skills (data entry/organization) is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous small animal handling and caring experience is desirable.
