NEW JERSEY DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION Public Posting POSTING #: 24-00118 TITLE: Engineer Trainee Transportation (Civil) ISSUE DATE: 3/15/2024 TITLE CODE: 16270 CLOSING DATE: 4/5/2024 DIVISION: Local Resources & Community Development LOCATION: Ewing UNIT: Various SALARY: $62,088.54-$64,482.40 The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) is seeking applications for candidates for the position of Engineer Trainee Transportation (ETT). Engineer Trainees are assigned a 40 - hour work week. Current starting salary is $62,088 and $64,482 after six months. Standard workweek is Monday through Friday, but some positions may require contractor hours. Work experience within many of the units will qualify as approved Design Experience for the issuance of a NJ PE License. The Divisions within Local Resources and Community Development cover a wide range of work activities and phases, grants administration, and project development. The Division of Local Aid and Economic Development impacts daily life in New Jersey. Staff annually oversees more than $400 million in state aid and more than $150 million in federal assistance. Regional trails, bikeways, safe streets, bridges, and pavement are just a few types of projects the Division funds. Local Aid engineers are responsible for selecting projects for grants and overseeing the local design and construction of the projects. The Division of Community Development is comprised of Project Development and Major Access Permits. The Bureau of Major Access Permits regulates access to state highways working with applicants and our internal subject matter experts. The Bureau of Project Development initiates all NJDOT projects and oversees the process to identify the best solution to fix our transportation challenges. The Division of Environmental Resources ensures that NJDOT's projects and practices minimize impacts to the physical and human environments and comply with all governing environmental regulations related to transportation project development, facilities, and operations management. Our goal is to ensure our transportation system remains resilient and sustainable. The Bureau of Aeronautics and Modal Grant includes planners, engineers, and a specialized technical group responsible for our nationally recognized drone program. Work also includes the administration of rail and aeronautic grants, inspection of projects funded by the grants and review/approval of permits for airports and air shows. Outdoor Advertising Services unit regulates all off - premises signs in New Jersey. ENGINEER TRAINEE POSITIONS ARE AVAILABLE THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE DEPARTMENT. Note: Possession of a valid Professional Engineer's License issued by the New Jersey State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors may be substituted for the Bachelor's degree in Engineering. Note: An Engineer - In - Training (EIT) certification issued by the Division of Consumer Affairs, New Jersey Office of the Attorney General may be substituted for the above education requirement. Applicants must submit proof of the EIT certification and the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam results. The area of discipline indicated on the FE exam results (e.g.,Civil, Electrical and Computers, Chemical, Industrial and Systems, Environmental, Mechanical, and Other Disciplines) must be appropriate to the position.
