Under the direction of the Director for Clinical Skills the Clinical Skills (CS) Technologist will serve an essential role in clinical skills education programs at the School of Medicine. Provide hands on expertise to facilitate and support all clinical skills sessions operations, including preparation, maintenance and repair of computerized manikins (software and hardware), task trainers and related multimedia equipment. Work to ensure the smooth operation of clinical skills events from start to finish. Simulation responsibilities include management of the daily operations of IT, AV and simulation equipment and administrative tasks related to the educational activities at the Clinical Simulation and Practice Center, and the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine at Seton Hall. The CS Tech will also have administrative responsibilities related to day-to-day scheduling of the simulation center, standardized patients, student meetings and other planning activities.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Clinical Skills Technologist at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Serve as simulator operator by preparing, programming, testing, running, and trouble-shooting video capturing scenarios, assuring that the facility and equipment are set up for teaching sessions and sessions are executed as planned.
  • Program and maintain manikin-based simulation software and equipment for simulation sessions.
  • Acquire and install digital audiovisual hardware and software systems to capture simulated sessions with subsequent editing and transfer into an archival format for analysis as needed.
  • Operate and provide technical support for computer-based multimedia systems and their components, including operation of digital cameras, video cameras, audio/video mixer, digital/analog converter, monitors, LCD projectors, and other equipment.
  • Support the use of digital media and web stream creation for educational and professional distribution, distribute content and back up data, and provide troubleshooting.
  • Interface with the equipment manufacturers regarding equipment troubleshooting and systems problems; maintain record of repairs.
  • Conduct routine maintenance including install software and hardware upgrades and maintain functionality of manikin components as directed by manufacturer support.
  • Train faculty and other Simulation Center staff in the operational aspects of simulation. Communicate in a positive, professional manner with faculty instructors, students and other users of the Simulation Center.
  • Perform administrative duties relating to the simulation programs for the School of Medicine including tracking of standardized patients, student evaluations, supplies, reports, data collection and others as needed.
  • Support clinical skills sessions, including set up, preparation, and operations.
  • Assist with other special projects or initiatives as needed.
  • Establish and maintain vital records and statistics as they pertain to simulation and assist in securing all data according to university IT, Seton Hall University, and Clinical Simulation and Practice Center policies and procedures.
  • Maintain supplies and equipment for optimal operation. Maintain up to date inventory. Identify and communicate the nee for additional and/or replacement equipment/supplies.
  • Develop and maintain skill sets necessary to fulfill their job responsibilities.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Associate's or Technical School degree or currently enrolled in a higher degree granting program.
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience
  • Experience working in an academic, healthcare, biotechnology or simulation related learning environment.
  • Working knowledge of and proficiency in computers, application software, operating systems and information technology equipment.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 1 year of experience in a healthcare related field.
  • Experience with healthcare information technologies.
  • Experience with Laerdal, METI, Gaumard, Simulab and other simulation systems and equipment.
