Job Description:

Raritan Valley Community College strives to prepare students for the challenges of the ever-changing global community. The Department of Communication and Languages at Raritan Valley Community College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Instructor of English as a Second Language (ESL) for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Essential Duties:

Teach a 15-credit, load in Academic Reading and Writing and Academic Grammar courses per semester in accordance with college and departmental guidelines.

Make continuous efforts to improve the quality of English language instruction by reviewing, utilizing, and assessing innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods. Evaluate students to measure their progress in achieving course objectives, and inform them in a timely manner of their progress.

Review, evaluate, and recommend student learning materials.

Help place, advise and schedule students throughout the calendar year. Help ESL faculty continue to improve and monitor changes in our placement processes and procedures.

Use and continue to learn about new educational technologies, such as Learning Management systems, presentation applications and software to manage academic integrity.

Provide regular access to students through posted, in-person student and advising hours, electronic communication and other appropriate methods

Promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice in instructional practices as well as campus and community engagements.

Maintain, update, and develop disciplinary curricula.

Participate in departmental strategic planning and outcomes assessment.

Engage in on-going professional endeavors related to pedagogy and effective language teaching.

Serve on departmental, campus, and/or community-based initiatives and committees; contribute to the department and college through academic and campus leadership.

Adhere to College policies and procedures.


Requirements:

Master's degree in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) or Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from an accredited college or university required.

Minimum of two years' full-time teaching experience required.

Demonstrated excellence in teaching high-beginner, intermediate, high-intermediate to advanced/ college transition writing and grammar courses. Continued willingness to teach these levels and courses.

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated scholarship and/or professional development in ESL and/or pedagogy.

Experience advising students.

Experience teaching capstone-type writing courses and/or ESL sheltered composition for college credit

Experience using technology in the delivery of course content.

Online and/or Hybrid teaching experience.

Prior Community College teaching experience.
