As a Development Writer for the Hackensack Meridian Health Foundation, you will act as a strategic storyteller with a focus on advancing the mission and vision of Hackensack Meridian Health. In this role, you will have exceptional written and oral communication and problem solving skills, a solid understanding of philanthropy, organizational awareness, and experience managing time-sensitive, complex projects from ideation to completion. The Development Writer will be responsible for collaborating with foundation colleagues, network administrators, and clinicians to research, write, and produce proposals and other materials to support our fundraising efforts.

This is a hybrid position, based out of Edison, NJ.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Development Writer at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Write and produce clear, compelling, and persuasive proposals for philanthropic support, with a priority on proposals for principal gifts (i.e. gifts of $1 million or more) .
  • Write and produce campaign materials that articulate funding priorities, including concept papers and brochures
  • Write talking points and scripts for donor meetings and events
  • Write and produce slide presentations, reports, and other communications materials as assigned
  • Develop collaborative relationships with team members to gather information and data for proposals and other projects.
  • Coordinate with subject matter experts and internal/external communications colleagues on campaign materials
  • Incorporate editorial changes, comments and critiques from multiple reviewers using exceptional writing and editing skills; exercise sound judgment with regard to strategy, appropriate points of emphasis and persuasive impact
  • Manage timelines and deadlines effectively.
  • Define project scope and objectives, involving all relevant internal stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility. Ensure all projects are delivered by deadline, within scope and budget.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience in philanthropy with knowledge of trends and best practices.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in writing and proposal development, preferably in the nonprofit sector.
  • Experience producing materials for VIP constituents.
  • Highly skilled in writing and editing, research, and problem solving.
  • Collegial team player able to interact effectively with diverse internal and external constituencies.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively and manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • Five (5) years of experience in fundraising.
  • Highly functional with Google Office.
