Executive Director, Elwyn New Jersey

POSITION SUMMARY: Provides overall direction for all activities related to the Elwyn New Jersey following industry standards, where applicable, regulatory agencies, as appropriate, and Elwyn objectives and policies. The Executive Director drives the development and implementing the annual strategic plan and budget.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directs, administers, and coordinates all agency activities as directed by President/CEO, Chief Operating Officer, SVP of Supports for Living and the Board of Directors of Elwyn and Elwyn New Jersey to accomplish planned objectives
  • Serves as liaison among Board of Directors, Elwyn administration, department heads, New Jersey Department of Human Services/Division of Developmental Disabilities (NJ DHS/DDD) and families
  • Translates the strategic and tactical business plans into operational plans within the Elwyn NJ program service areas
  • Evaluates the Elwyn NJ program service areas structure and team plan for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the group as well as for providing individuals with professional and personal growth opportunities
  • Drives the corporate goals for performance, both programmatic and financial, ensuring Elwyn NJ program operations operate in a fiscally prudent manner and within established budgets
  • Establishes credibility throughout the organization to be an effective listener and problem solver of people issues
  • Collaborates with other members of senior management to create an environment that encourages and rewards cooperative efforts between all Elwyn service areas that are in the interest of Elwyn and its consumers
  • Provides supervision of assigned staff in the areas including, but not limited to, recruitment, selection, leadership, coaching, training, performance management, promotion, discipline and termination
  • Provides a setting that encourages the balance of clinical and business priorities and promotes best practices across programs
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships and nurtures confidence of funding agencies, and others who provide material support to assure that their needs are met
  • Actively looks for ways to increase consistency throughout Elwyn using best practices and outcome based results
  • Assures that an outcome focus is maintained
  • Assures that all programs meet the credentialing requirements, licensure, certification and accreditation
  • Assures customer satisfaction with a focus on improving quality
  • Inspires a shared vision of the Corporate Core Values and Mission and culture
  • Works with other Elwyn executives in the development of new business
  • Communicates goals, objectives, and ongoing achievements regularly and clearly to staff, families, and customers
  • Establish annual budgets for each program service area in coordination with corporate finance group
  • Partners with corporate Advancement team on the development of organizational resources via fundraising, grants, or proposals
  • Monitors changes in competitive practices
  • Establishes strategic direction to increase business levels. Works with state officials as necessary to enhance Elwyn footprint.
  • Establishes training plan for all Elwyn New Jersey programs
  • Develops effective working relationship with the Unions in order to ensure effective operations and outcomes
  • Works with, understands, and complies with terms and conditions of collective bargaining agreements (CBA) within a unionized environment with tasks including but not limited to adherence to scheduling procedures, processing transfers and promotions, administering disciplinary actions, adjudicating grievances, where appropriate, etc
  • Prepares reports for and attends meetings with the Board of Directors, reviews and acts upon the reports as directed
  • Prepares for, reviews and acts upon reports of inspecting agencies to assure compliance
  • Represents Elwyn New Jersey in community, state and national associations and professional activities concerning programs ' operations delivery, short and long range planning of client services, and facilities
  • Maintains current state-mandated training and certifications
  • Follows all current policies and procedures of Elwyn New Jersey
  • Cooperates with Elwyn New Jersey and the State of New Jersey Department of Human Services, or any other authorized investigating body during an inspection or investigation
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Senior Vice President, Supports for Living
CONTACTS: Board of Directors, Elwyn Administration, department heads, NJ DHS/DDD, families, staff in Human Resources, Finance, Payroll, Staff Development, Adult Services, Clinical Services, Work Services and other departments, representatives from the City of Vineland and union representatives
DIRECT REPORTS: Director of Clinical Services, Directors of Operations, Director of Compliance and Quality Improvement, Manager of Electronic Health Records
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelors' degree in human services related field from an accredited college or university; graduate degree in human services related field preferred
  • Ten (10) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in residential type facilities
  • Demonstrated proven leader with administrative and supervisory responsibilities in intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) field.
  • Must successfully complete and obtain/maintain all certifications as required by the Elwyn New Jersey and regulatory agencies
  • Equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the characteristics required to do the essential functions of the class may be substituted for those listed
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage and prioritize multiple, often competing, priorities
  • Demonstrated strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated strong time management and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated strong ability to anticipate future needed changes or identify problem areas and take effective actions
  • Must possess excellent customer interaction, collaboration, presentation, and written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven track record of process improvement and change management with measured outcomes
  • Strong skills in problem identification, analysis and resolution
  • Five (5) years of management experience with Union population
  • Demonstrated basic experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Must have current, valid driver's license in state of residence, three (3) years driving experience in the United States, and acceptable driving record
