Overview
The Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O) employs a workforce of approximately 2,700 staff, represented by 15 collective negotiations agreements, and is responsible for institutional strategic initiatives and operations, which encompasses an expansive range of comprehensive service and business operations across the State of New Jersey. These include planning and construction, facilities, public safety and emergency operations, environmental health and safety, transportation, housing, and auxiliary/retail operations.
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Sr. Facilities Project Specialist for the Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O). Reports to the Associate Director. Serves as the department's technical project manager relating to the planning, design, and operation of all university utility equipment and distribution of same.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Oversees the delivery of chilled water systems 24-7 to include chillers, cooling towers, building automation systems related to chilled water systems, and converter houses.
  • Will manage the water treatment program for chilled water and condenser water systems.
  • Assumes managerial responsibility in all decision-making, procedures, planning, and policy subsets as they impact chilled water systems.
  • Coordinates and manages mechanical and technical projects from inception to completion.
  • Leads a project team consisting of users, design architects, and contract vendors through all phases of a project, interfacing with various other university service providers to deliver a complete and comprehensive project on time and within budget.
  • Individual utility projects may range in value from $10,000 to over $500,000 each.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, or an equivalent of education and/or experience.
  • A minimum of five years' experience in the operation and maintenance of mechanical systems that include but not limited to centrifugal chillers, absorption chillers, electrical switchgear, pumps, controls systems associated with chiller systems, and cooling towers and repairs of such systems.
Certifications/Licenses
  • Valid driver's license
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Supervisory experience; excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills; and computer literacy.
  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems, knowledge of building codes, and the ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and building systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Energy Management Systems preferred.
  • New Jersey Blue Seal refrigeration license, HVACR license, chilled water system experience
Equipment Utilized
  • Experience in Windows, Internet, and e-mail. Knowledge of University Purchasing System a plus.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • The ability to work in mechanical rooms.
