PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

The PP Production Manager is responsible for leading the Technical and Operations support functions and act as a link between the day-to-day and shift operations. This person will manage the medium- to long-term strategies of the area. The PP Production Manager is also responsible for leading area continuous improvement initiatives from managing system(s) for idea generation to facilitating execution of projects.

JOB CONTEXT:

The PP Production Manager has operational responsibilities for the effective management of Process and Technical Support staff. Their leadership should focus on safety, maintaining quality standards, implementing standardized work processes, and driving and supporting a culture of continuous improvement to leverage and implement best manufacturing practices.

The person in this role will interact with colleagues at the local, site, and global levels. They will be knowledgeable of the Avient Protective Materials' processes and product quality requirements. They will analyze process and production data and provide troubleshooting and reporting support and take action to improve processes.

The PP Production Manager must be able to engage and develop their team members by setting clear expectations, providing individualized feedback, and successfully managing the performance of their team.

JOB CONTENT:

Key Areas of Accountability / Responsibility

1. Show behavior in line with the SHE and Security risks and agreed controls, including being compliant to AVIENT requirements, rules and procedures.

2. Assures that all employees follow established occupational safety rules, housekeeping, Hazmat regulations, and SOPs.

3. Conduct safety incident reporting, corrective action responses, and documenting observed risks.

4. Abides by and enforces Avient procedures/policies regarding security, inclusive of: employee security agreements; use of non-disclosure agreements with outside parties; control of intellectual property limited to a "need to know" only basis; no unauthorized use of cell phones, cameras, computers or AVIENT property; reporting security threats and incidents; proper control of Avient property and keys.

5. Champion sustainability by promoting a "reduce/reuse/recycle" philosophy within their team.

6. Provides leadership to assigned employees by performing the following: leading organizational change; developing and empowering employees; cultivating relationships; putting employees in a position to succeed, meeting their personal career goals while also achieving organizational goals; building effective teams that apply their diverse skills and perspectives to achieve common goals; driving engagement and creating a climate where employees are motivated to do their best.

7. Prepares performance reviews for all employees and evaluates personnel performance according to performance management process. Provides feedback for continuous improvement. Holds employees accountable and applies discipline process as required. Assists in hiring staff as needed. Maintains a work environment that fosters teamwork and supports the company's continuous improvement process.

8. Focus on employee growth, development and future performance through ongoing conversations, coaching & succession planning with team.

9. Facilitate the training of new or current Production Support employees in new skills or retraining, to include Safety, Quality, and SOPs.

10. Support and drive productivity to meet plant and corporate initiatives, as outlined in the Manufacturing Plan

11. Responsible for compliance with relevant laws, regulatory requirements, recipes, SOP's, and other related documentation and activities.

12. Manages the finite scheduling for LP operations to ensure that product line loading and equipment scheduling is optimized to result in optimal asset utilization.

13. Manages continuous improvement initiative activities and projects which includes supporting and leading continuous improvements to maintain and improve area safety, product quality and process efficiency.

14. Evaluates and solves operation problems by reviewing the area of concern, developing potential solutions, technically evaluating, or testing the solutions, and preparing summary reports/recommendations for management.

15. Investigates and prepares technical reports related to production opportunities, customer complaints/inquiries, material consumption/reconciliation, process deviations, efficiency, and schedule variances.

16. Active contribution to resolving unplanned deviations. This includes real-time documentation and root cause analysis.

17. Critical point of contact to facilitate teamwork within the LP production support department, LP operations organization, and support departments. Provides necessary resources for the team to fulfill objectives.

18. Participates in quality and safety investigations and ensures appropriate actions are taken to correct deficiencies.

19. Supports the creation, update and review of LP work instructions, procedures and change requests as required.

20. Perform other duties as assigned.

Authorities

Authorized to approve work permits per details included in site procedure. If so authorized, employee must maintain necessary refresher training to participate in these activities.

COMPLEXITY OF THE JOB:

Process support and finite schedule decisions made by the PP Production Manager will directly impact manufacturing performance, cost, and the area's ability to site and business targets.

Leadership decisions made by the PP Production Manager will also directly impact Manufacturing performance by the impact to morale of direct reports, impact to teamwork within Operations and across site departments, and impact to continuous improvement culture initiatives.

KNOWLEDGE AND EDUCATIONAL LEVEL:

  • Bachelor's degree (BS/BA) in a related technical field plus 4 years technical and/or supervisory experience in manufacturing; OR 6 years technical and/or supervisory experience in manufacturing.
  • Process or Project Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment (preferred).
  • Working knowledge and/or routine use of the business processes and platforms such as:

o Microsoft Office Suite and related Digital Platforms

o Manufex, Operational Excellence and Good Manufacturing Processes (GMP), Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt)

o SAP

o Work permitting and work permit software

o SHE requirements and practices

o Relevant SHE assessments and investigation practices

Management of change and continuous improvement methodologies

The PP Production Manager will back fill the Shift Supervisors, when needed. The person in this role will also fill in for the PP Operations Manager.

Due to the above-mentioned complexity of the operations and specific role, it is important the job holder has the ability and skills to work with various levels of personnel within the business. This includes technicians, engineers, sales and marketing, senior management, as well as with external audit bodies and customers. Additionally, the job holder needs the ability to handle stress, function calmly in emergency situations, and be able to confront people at various levels of the organization.

REQUIRED LEVEL OF EXPERIENCES:

  • Experience leading a team and developing team members based on team member skill sets, desires for growth and business needs.
  • Familiarity with implementing, modeling, following and enforcing safety, health and environment procedures and behaviors.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with support groups and all levels of the organization.
  • Strategic planning and organizational skills for short-, medium- and long-term tasks and actions such as planning and ensuring the resources required to execute the production schedule
  • Problem-solving abilities to be able to quickly assess production issues and establish the best course of action
  • Analytical skills to be able to spot issues/deficiencies of varying complexity within the manufacturing process quickly and take appropriate and timely action to rectify.
  • Ability to make informed and data driven decisions quickly, at times under pressure
  • Effective at time management to complete urgent-, short-, medium- and long-term tasks and actions
  • Effective communication skills to disseminate information related to site and area goals, expectations, and other pertinent information to ensure understanding by team members
  • Ability to compile, analyze, interpret, update, and create business and production reports on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis
  • Ability to lead, support, drive and effectively communicate change management
  • Ability to coach, develop, empower, and hold team members accountable when appropriate
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment and understanding of machine controls and instrumentation
  • Broad knowledge of production planning processes
