The Office of Information Technology (OIT) is Rutgers' enterprise IT office. OIT provides university wide services and support and collaborates with department and unit IT professionals on projects and initiatives for the Rutgers community. OIT's services and systems include the Rutgers network; email and calendaring systems; IDs/passwords and identity management; data centers; computer labs; help desk support; wireless connectivity; a software portal; information security, risk, and compliance services; research computing; and many others. Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Application Developer III for the Office of Information Technology.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Provides analytical and programming support for various University administrative and academic offices.
  • Analyzes, plans, designs, develops, implements, and maintains of the legacy Mainframe application system resources (Enterprise COBOL, IMS TM, JCL MVS/OS Utilities,SQL).

Work Arrangement
Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2023. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Sciences, Engineering or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • A minimum of 7 years progressive experience in an analytical and programming environment with an emphasis on business knowledge acquisition, systems design, and COBOL.

Recent experience with the following:
  • Strong Enterprise COBOL programming techniques
  • IMS TM
  • JCL
  • MVS / OS Utilities
  • Knowledge of mainframe legacy system integration with ORACLE
  • Structured programming techniques
  • SQL

  • Ability to understand complex legacy computer systems.
  • Must possess excellent organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
